Meet Our Director of Golf

Let's get to know the guy who makes it all possible at Craft Farms.

Ryan Mello was born and raised in Bermuda, a British Colony, and lived there until he was 15 years old. He moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina, where he attended the International Junior Golf Academy for his junior and senior years. He attended George Washington University on a golf scholarship, then transferred to Jacksonville University for a semester. After finding his true calling for the golf industry, he transferred into Clemson University. He married his wife Emily Mello when he was working and living in Savannah, Georgia, and they have 3 beautiful children: twin boy and girl (John and Elizabeth Mello born on 11.11.11), and Billy Mello, born on March 30th 2015.

Ryan picked up golf when he was 11 years old, and immediately fell in love with the game. He traveled across the country to play in junior events, and even represented his home country of Bermuda in the famed Junior World’s competition, which is held in San Diego. (PS: Tiger Woods actually won many of these tournaments!) He played Division I golf for George Washington University for a semester, and then decided that the direction of his golfing career was not to play in college, and he took a break from the game.

He transferred into Jacksonville University and was studying to become a Graphic Artist. However, he still played golf leisurely, which is where he learned that his true passion in golf was to teach and coach. He felt this spark while teaching a few football players on campus how to play golf on the college course. He sought out programs that had Professional Golf Management as a Major, and found Clemson University. He attended for 5 in a half years and was a part of the 2nd graduating class from the Clemson PGM Program.  He has been a Class “A” PGA Golf Professional since 2007.

If you're a Clemson fan, you need to talk to Ryan.

"I am a huge Clemson fan, and there are not enough of us in Gulf Shores, Alabama. I am thinking about creating a Clemson Club to find where the other fans are."
