We recently wrapped up our 2nd Annual Coastal Alabama Couples Classic on the Gulf Coast. This three-day golfing event brought in golfers from all over, representing over 15 states, including California! The CACC took place November 9 – 11 in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fairhope. We wanted to provide the couples with the full Gulf Coast experience, from Championship golf, to salty water air, and of course, fresh Gulf seafood. We had 44 couples participate, and we intend to grow this event with every passing year.

Welcome Reception at PLAYA at Sportsman Marina
One of the greatest attractions to the Gulf Coast is the legendary cuisine. And PLAYA, one of the newest restaurants in our area, proved to be no exception. The entire second floor overlooking the marina was dedicated to the CACC for their Welcome Reception. Guests enjoyed live music, drinks, and PLAYA’s phenomenal hors d'oeuvres. Each golfer was given drink tickets to enjoy at the bar, and we watched the sun set over the marina while listening to Marsha Guyer and Tom Meador entertain the crowd. How amazing does that sound?

Day 2: Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club
Day 2 started bright and early with a delicious breakfast buffet at Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club, followed by an 8:30 am shotgun start. Participants arrived early to meet with an onsite FootJoy rep to choose their tee gift, the latest ProSL laced FootJoy shoe.

Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club provides the perfect blend of southern hospitality and championship golf in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Rated 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest and selected as one of the “most memorable and enjoyable” courses in the southeast, Peninsula provides a golfing experience that is rivaled by few.

In fact, Peninsula was recently recognized by Golf Advisor as one of the Top 10 Conditioned Courses in the U.S. Designed by the renowned southern favorite, Earl Stone, the 27-hole golf course boasts 7,026 yards from the championship tees and delivers a playable and enjoyable layout for golfers of all skill levels. Needless to say, this is a truly impressive and exceptional experience!

As we sought to provide the golfers with the full Gulf Coast experience during the CACC, we planned a sunset boat cruise, complete with an open bar and delicious food prepared by our own chef. However, Mother Nature had other plans.
After their round at Peninsula, golfers enjoyed lunch in the Clubhouse, as we watched the clouds begin to roll in. Unfortunately, the wind and the rain kept us from embarking on our sunset cruise Friday night. We decided to move the boat cruise to the following night, and golfers were able to enjoy a night out on their own.

Day 3: Craft Farms and The Groovinators
Day 3 started with breakfast and 9 am shotgun at Craft Farms Golf Resort – a cold and windy shotgun start! The golfers arrived bundled up, with great attitudes, ready to take on the day.

Craft Farms Golf Resort is a 36 hole golf resort designed by the golf icon, Arnold. The two golf courses are the only courses in Alabama designed by Palmer. Located just minutes away from Fort Morgan and the beautiful white sand beaches of Gulf Shores, golfers got the chance to enjoy one of the most popular golf courses in the area and they were not disappointed.

With the temperature having dropped to below 50 degrees overnight, the staff began to reconsider the sunset boat cruise all together. We wanted to keep our guests warm and happy! After a quick staff meeting, we decided no more boat cruise, let’s just throw a party! With quick menu changes, some beautiful decorations, and a live band standing by – we were able to pull off a great party Saturday night!

We announced our new plan to the couples as they enjoyed lunch on the course following their round. Live music from The Groovinators would begin at 6:00 pm that night, so we asked couples to return ready for dancing! We provided four drink tickets per person, and an unbelievable spread of Ahi tuna, charcuterie, sliders and more! The band played classic hits from the 60’s and 70’s while couples danced the night way!

Day 4: Rock Creek Golf Club and Final Results
For the final day, couples met at Rock Creek Golf Club in Fairhope, Alabama, for breakfast and 18 holes of golf. Rock Creek Golf Course was designed by veteran golf course architect and Southeastern favorite Earl Stone. This 18-hole Baldwin County golf course stretches over 6,900 yards, making it perfect for long hitters. Rock Creek is unique with its elevation changes, compared to Peninsula or Craft Farms. It is known for it’s beautiful undulating greens, making it a nice surprise for the couples! After the final round, golfers enjoyed lunch and prizes, as the final scores rolled in.

Rock Creek Golf Club's very own David and Amy Johnson took home the first-place trophy with the lowest overall gross score from the entire weekend!

Guests were thrilled with the entire experience, and we expect to see most of them return next year! A survey was sent to all of the couples who played in this 2nd Annual Coastal Alabama Couples Classic. We will use the survey to improve the experience for next year’s event. Keep an eye out for details regarding next year’s event in the next couple of months.
